Two men died, and a teenage boy was seriously injured in a crash on US 70. The accident occurred during the early morning hours and appeared to be a head-on collision. Both cars appeared to be horribly mangled. The crash happened in the westbound lanes of US 70 in Garner. The location was between Raynor Road/Auburn Knightdale Road and North Greenfield Parkway. It happened at about 2 AM.

Wrong Way Crash

Garner police were on the scene soon after the call came in, alerting them to an accident on US 70. The police said the impact was head-on, indicating that one of the vehicles was traveling in the wrong direction on the highway. An investigation will need to be done to determine exactly what happened and the cause of the deadly crash. Wrong-way accidents occur most often at night when there is less visibility, traffic is low, and the possibility of impairment is increased. In this case, the investigation may help to prove whether impairment played a factor in the crash.

Charlotte Personal Injury Attorney Matt Arnold answers the question: “What exactly is a wrongful death claim?”

Speed Was a Factor

The police statement said that speed was likely a factor in this crash. Speeding is one of the most common factors in many accidents. Speed limits are posted for every roadway in the state, and drivers must adhere to them. In addition, a driver must drijunk-yard-4-1498128-1-1024x768ve with care and must always drive at a safe speed, regardless of the posted limit. For instance, when visibility is low or road conditions are poor, drivers must use more caution and drive more slowly. Additional factors are likely possible, including the possibility of impairment by one or more of the drivers.

Full Accident Investigation

In situations such as this, a full accident investigation must be completed. The investigation will review all aspects of the crash, including where each vehicle originated from and where they were intending to go. Generally, a crash has one or more causes and contributing factors. These factors fall broadly into several categories, including human error, mechanical problems, and outside factors. Human errors include such things as speeding and impairment. Mechanical problems occur, for instance, when someone’s brakes fail. Outside factors are things such as weather or road conditions.

What to Do After an Accident

If you are hurt in an accident, there are several things you should do right away. Call the police to report the crash. Remain in your vehicle unless it is safe to get out. Take photos of the vehicles only if doing so does not put you in danger. Seek medical attention as soon as possible. The police will do an immediate investigation. Keep in mind that the negligent driver is responsible for paying your medical bills, lost wages, and other damages that you incurred as a result of the accident.
