A motorcycle rider was seriously hurt when a car collided head-on with his motorcycle. The crash occurred on N.C. Highway 690 in Moore County. The motorcyclist was airlifted to a trauma center with serious injuries. The crash happened at about 11 pm in the evening. Various emergency personnel arrived quickly to assist at the scene.

How Did the Motorcycle Crash Happen?

The Moore County Sheriff’s Office, Moore County EMS, Crain’s Creek Fire & Rescue, and the State Highway Patrol (SHP) responded to the serious accident. According to SHP, a car was trying to turn onto McGill Road when it directly collided head-on with the motorcycle, which was traveling in the opposite direction. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Charlotte Personal Injury Attorney Matt Arnold answers the question: “What if a loved one dies from the injuries sustained in a serious accident while the case is pending?”

Head-On Accidents are Among the Most Serious

The accident was head-on and according to the SHP. Head-on accidents happen when vehicles run into each other head-to-head when traveling toward each other. Generally, these types of crashes are quite serious, and both drivers often suffer severe injuries. The speed the vehicles were traveling at the time of the impact will determine the severity of the crash. In this case, we do not yet know exactly what happened, but it seems apparent that the motorcycle was traveling straight ahead at the time.

Motorcycle Accidents Often Result in Severe Injuries

Any accident can be severe, especially when the impact is head-on. However, the severity level increases significantly when one vehicle is a motorcycle. Motorcycles are smaller and the driver is at great risk for injuries caused by an impact. In many cases, the driver of the car or SUV failed to see the motorcycle before it crashed. We do not know the details of how or why this accident happened or who was at fault.motorbikes-4-high-rez-1543051-1024x687

Injuries Due to Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcycle accidents can result in extreme injuries. Head trauma, broken bones, lacerations, back injuries, contusions, and internal injuries are all too common in motorcycle accidents. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is damage to the brain due to a sudden external impact. Vehicle accidents are the number one cause of TBI in adults. There are various levels of trauma based on the severity of the injury. Injuries may range from a mild concussion to coma or death. Sometimes, a TBI can result in permanent cognitive and/or motor disabilities. Wearing a helmet and protective gear can help to prevent or minimize the effects of a motorcycle accident.

What to Do After a Motorcycle Accident

Motorcycle accidents are often much more serious than fender-benders. Call the police immediately and try to remain calm. If you are hurt, do not try to move and instead wait for help. Law enforcement will take charge of the accident scene and ensure that medical personnel are on the way. The police will review the details of the accident, get witness statements, obtain driver information, and handle the roadway.

If you were not at fault for the accident, you may be owed money from the negligent driver. The driver who caused the crash may be liable for your damages, such as medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more. If you were seriously hurt in an accident, call us at Arnold & Smith, PLLC, at (704) 370-2828 to discuss the details of your injuries.
