Motorcycle accidents happen every day. Regardless of the frequency, they are still dangerous to all parties involved, especially the motorcycle rider. Victims of accidents are often left with unexpected expenses that they might not be in the financial position to pay. If you have been involved in a motorcycle accident, you may be entitled to damages through a personal injury lawsuit or claim. In order to recover damages, you need to have a strong case. The following are tips to strengthen a personal injury claim after a motorcycle accident.

A fundamental part of any personal injury case is proving that there were damages incurred. One of the best ways to show this is through seeking medical attention for any injuries sustained in the accident. Without treatment of these injuries, there is little to no way to prove that a victim has in fact sustained injuries. There is absolutely no good reason to not seek medical attention. Not only is it important for one’s own safety and health, but it also evidence of injuries and the extent of those injuries. Some people do not think that they are injured directly following an accident. However, it is important to seek medical attention, or a medical checkup, for a doctor to check for dormant injuries that do not appear right away. In addition to an initial checkup, it is important to maintain regular doctors visits. For every doctors visit you have, it is also important to maintain a record of them and any information given.

File a Police Report

North Carolina law requires that an accident is reported. A law enforcement officer will be dispatched to the scene to investigate and make the report. The report includes the parties to the accident, a description of the scene of the accident, statements from the parties, and other information that gives an idea of what occurred to cause the accident. The police report will become crucial evidence in a personal injury suit. It is a document that proves the existence of an accident and the officer’s opinion of the accident. It is important to document which officer takes the report and obtain a copy of it for yourself.

Maintain Your Own Records

While the doctors’ notes and police report are important in a personal injury suit, it is important to maintain your own records, as well. Take photographs at the scene of the accident, pictures of any road or weather conditions that contributed to the accident, and anything else that could be relevant later on. Additionally, be on the lookout for witnesses. If there were witnesses to the accident, ask for their names and contact information in the event that their witness statements are needed later on.
