1) Rear-End Collision
A rear-end collision happens when one vehicle hits the back of another. These are likely the most common types of accidents. Rear-end collisions can happen anywhere and at any speed. However, they occur most often at intersections, where one vehicle is stopped or moving slowly, and a vehicle behind fails to stop quickly enough. Rear-end collisions may cause neck and back injuries, including whiplash.
2) T-Bone Accidents
T-bone crashes are also called side impact or broadside accidents. This type of accident occurs when one vehicle hits the side of another, forming what looks like the letter “T”. T-bone accidents occur most frequently at intersections, where one vehicle is traveling in one direction, and the other vehicle is traveling in a perpendicular way. It can also happen when a driver turns in front of another driver.
3) Head-On Crashes
A head-on accident happens when both vehicles impact each other in the front. A head-on crash may occur when a vehicle is traveling the wrong way or when it crosses over into oncoming traffic. Generally, one vehicle does something that results in traveling directly into the path of another vehicle. Head-on crashes can be especially severe and often result in fatalities.
4) Side-Swipe Impacts
Side swipe impacts happen when vehicles are hit along their sides. Side swipes can happen when vehicles are traveling in the same direction, such as when one vehicle attempts to pass or merge. They can also occur when vehicles traveling in different directions get too close and collide. Side swipes are so named because they often involve a lengthy scrape between cars. Injuries depend on the location and speed of impact.
5) Single Vehicle Accidents
Single-vehicle accidents are those that happen without contact with another vehicle on the roadway. Any number of things can cause a driver to lose control of a vehicle and hit a stationary object, or go off the road entirely. Although they occur with one vehicle, they are still considered accidents.
If you are involved in an accident, you should immediately call the police. Seek medical attention for any injuries and gather information from the other driver. The police will investigate the accident scene, take statements from drivers and witnesses, and make a report.
