Head-On Collision Leaves One Person Dead, Two Injured

A head-on crash in Harnett County resulted in one death and two injuries. The deadly accident happened on Ponderosa Road north of Patriots Park between a Kia Soul and a Nissan truck. One person died at the scene, and two others were transported to the hospital with injuries. The accident happened in the afternoon. North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the crash, secured the scene, and conducted an initial investigation.

What is a Head-On Collision?

A head-on collision occurs when two vehicles hit each other front to front. The impact of a head-on collision is in the front of each vehicle. Although head-on accidents are not common, they are among the deadliest of all crashes. It is estimated that only about 2% of all crashes are head-on, yet they account for up to 14% of all traffic fatalities. Only rollover crashes are considered deadlier. Head-on crashes typically happen when one vehicle veers into an oncoming lane of traffic. This is what reportedly occurred in this specific crash.

Details About the Accident

The accident happened between a blue 2003 Kia Soul with one occupant and a Nissan truck with two occupants. According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the Kia Soul was traveling east on Ponderosa Road when it crossed over the line and tried to correct. Unfortunately, the driver overcorrected and hit the Nissan truck, which was traveling in the opposite direction, head-on. The driver of the Kia Soul was killed in the crash. The injured driver and passenger of the Nissan truck were transported to Womack Army Medical Center in Fort Bragg.

Head-On Crashes Are Serious

Head-on collisions are extremely serious. Many times, these types of accidents happen at high speeds. They occur quickly, and drivers do not have enough time to react or avoid the crash. These crashes often result in severe injuries or fatalities, as in this case. The driver who crossed the line or who was driving the wrong way is likely responsible for the accident due to their negligence. Even at low speeds, the consequences can be significant. Drivers and passengers in both vehicles may sustain critical injuries such as head trauma, back and neck injuries, broken bones, lacerations, and contusions, among others.

What to Do After an Accident

If you are involved in an accident, it is important to call 911 immediately. The police will take control of the crash scene, render help, gather information, review the details of the accident, take statements from drivers and witnesses, and ensure the safety of everyone at the scene. The police report will be useful if you need to file a claim. Seek medical attention as soon as possible. Speak to an attorney before you talk to the insurance representative. Remember, you may be owed money from the negligent party. Contact an attorney to assist you in getting compensation for your damages.
